We must not tolerate a narrative that failure is “cultural” and achievement is “white”.
As Indigenous people we should be able to aspire, achieve and be leaders in our own communities & society at large, free of bigotry & lateral racism.
Running to stand still
If the Czech Republic and China can transform from isolated impoverished backwaters into thriving economies in less than three decades, why can’t Indigenous communities?
Communities can take the initiative
Indigenous communities don’t need to wait for government to devolve responsibility to them. In many cases they can just take it.
We also need to correctly identify who the community is and who speaks for them. This doesn’t always happen.
A tale of two worlds
Why can’t Cape York make as much of a go at it as Kangaroo Island? It can. But only if private asset ownership and commercial activities are allowed. At the moment they are not.
